Cursor
In Cursor, OptiFlume changes the model in Cursor's own model picker, says why above the composer, and sends your prompt on the new model.
What you see
You send a prompt as usual. When another model fits it better:
- The prompt pauses. It stays in the composer.
- The model in Cursor’s picker changes, and a note above the composer says why.
- The same prompt sends on the new model, by itself.
When nothing needs to change, nothing happens. Without Accessibility permission (below), OptiFlume suggests instead: the note names the model, and you switch yourself. Routing and overrides explains when OptiFlume switches.
Keep your own model for a prompt
Start the prompt with !:
! refactor this module carefullyThat prompt stays on the model you have selected.
Setup, the first time
- Restart Cursor after installing: quit it (⌘Q) and open it again.
- Sign in from the OptiFlume note that appears. Your first switch walks through it.
- Allow Accessibility for Cursor when OptiFlume asks. It lets OptiFlume finish an automatic switch and send your prompt on the new model. It is optional: without it, OptiFlume suggests the model and you switch yourself.
Switch, suggest, or pause
optiflume auto-switch on # switch automatically
optiflume auto-switch off # suggest only
optiflume auto-switch pause # pausedThese commands also affect Claude Code and Codex, which do not have suggest-only yet: off stops them switching. Modes and Stop/Keep has the details.
Safety and long sessions
The Guardian, working memory and the session watchdog, and the optional Stop/Keep notice work in Cursor as in every tool.
What OptiFlume adds to Cursor
- its hooks, added to Cursor’s hook list,
~/.cursor/hooks.json(hooks you already had stay); - the OptiFlume Bridge extension, which changes the model and shows OptiFlume’s notes;
- a short rule,
~/.cursor/rules/optiflume.mdc, so Cursor’s assistant can explain those notes when you ask; - the
optiflumecommand in~/.optiflume/bin.
Cursor keeps your account and model credentials; OptiFlume never sees them. OptiFlume only uses the models you have turned on in Cursor’s settings. Uninstalling removes everything above.
Claude Code and Codex in Cursor
The Claude Code and Codex panels work in Cursor too, under the same license: OptiFlume switches their model as it does in VS Code, and ~ keeps your own. See Claude Code and Codex.
