What it reads
Everything it reads, it reads on your Mac, before the prompt sends.
What it looks at
To judge how hard a prompt is, OptiFlume looks at what you asked, the code the task involves, and how the session has gone so far. On Pro it also learns from the prompts you send your own way with ~ or !.
Where it happens
On your Mac. The judgment is made locally, from a local index of your codebase, and never sends your prompt or your code anywhere. What is stored where lists every file OptiFlume keeps.
How it decides
It picks the most capable model at close to the lowest price for the work in front of you. Hard work is never moved to a weaker model to save money. When it is not sure, or the saving is small, it leaves your model alone: a wasted request costs cents; an interrupted train of thought costs the afternoon.
You have the last word
Start a prompt with ~ in Claude Code and Codex, or ! in Cursor, and it goes to the model you picked. Routing and overrides covers every way to steer it.
